E21 Africa Congress Opens in Johannesburg

May 16, 2018—Johannesburg, South Africa –The opening night of the Empowered21 Africa Congress featured a colorful parade of nations, government officials, high praise, and life-altering teaching at a packed Word and Life Church in Boxburg. The event was the first day of a four-day gathering of the Spirit-empowered movement from around the globe.

The Premier of Gauteng Province, David Makhura, challenged delegates with the phrase, “This conference is vital to the continent because it is a gathering of all Africa nations and demonstrates that we can have unity, especially in the church.”

The Africa Cabinet of Empowered21 has been planning this week’s event for more than a year. Empowered21 Africa co-chairs,  Rev. Frank Chicane, President of Apostolic Faith Mission International, and Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, Overseer of the Church of Pentecost, set the stage for the event to take flight by displaying a strong sense of unity and bringing a warm and spirited welcome.

In another display of the strength of this Congress, Global Co-Chairs of Empowered21 Dr. Billy Wilson, President of Oral Roberts University, and Dr. George Wood, Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, shared the stage placing the Congress in context. Wilson formally recognized the Council members during the evening service.

Bishop Kenneth Ulmer, senior pastor of Faithful Central Bible Church in Los Angeles and Co-chair of the Empowered21 USA Cabinet, delivered a powerful message of anointing, “The Church doesn’t look like its picture,” Ulmer said challenging the delegates from Acts 2. “Our lives must line up with the Word of God and demonstrate the power of the Holy Spirit, “ The message was followed by a time of prayer and worship.

Earlier in the day, the Empowered21 Global Council concluded their final day of meetings, which annually coincides with the Regional Congress. Meeting for the first time was the Global Evangelism Alliance, a group organized and led by Daniel Kolenda, president and CEO of Christ for the Nations. The Alliance is one of four initiatives under the covering of Empowered21, including Next Gen, Discipleship, and a Scholars Consultation, which also met earlier this week and presented a report to the Council today.

The Empowered21 Global Congress in Africa continues through Friday, May 18 with messages from Niko Njotorahardjo, Daniel Kolenda, and Billy Wilson. The event concludes Saturday afternoon, May 19 with an anointing service for the next generation.
